This NOAA satellite image taken Thursday, March 18, 2010 at 10:45 AM EDT shows scattered clouds and ultimately drier weather across most of the Southeast as the low pressure affecting the region moves off the Southeast coast. Wrap around flow associated with this low reaches across the Carolinas and triggers light, scattered showers near the coastal areas of these areas. Behind this system, high pressure brings drier and warmer weather to the Southeast. Warmer temperatures plus lower relative humidity level raise wildfire weather concerns across central Florida. Meanwhile to the north, high pressure remains the dominant weather feature from the Great Lakes through the Northeast. Outside of a few lingering cirrus clouds, most of these regions experience plenty of sunshine with and unseasonably mild temperatures. A cold front passing through Maine brings cooler temperatures and more cloud coverage to the northern tier of New England.

In this March 8, 2010 photo, Jon Johansen uses a ruler to keep his place while transferring data from a book listing boats built in 1885 onto his computer at his home in Winterport, Maine. Thousands of ships over hundreds of years have navigated the rolling waters of Maine's Penobscot River across the street from Jon Johansen's home. Inspired by that history, Johansen set about documenting every ship ever built along the shores of the state's largest river. What started as a modest endeavor has turned into a gargantuan undertaking: Johansen is attempting to create a database of virtually every vessel built in the United States.
